Letter from the Mayor

The City of Bainbridge Island offers an excellent environment for dynamic and progressive businesses. As a new community, we have taken steps to recognize that there is an important role for business as part of our makeup. The Economic Element of our Comprehensive Plan points out that "A healthy economy, based on the vision of the island, is a tool for accomplishing larger community goals." Within this framework, our policies call for support of home-based business, retail and services, and light manufacturing. This philosophy supports the broader perspective of a community that places great value on diversity, a financially sound development pattern, and upon quality of life.

Bainbridge Island applauds good business stewardship. We realize that sensitive attention to sound planning, control of congestion and pollution, and harmony with surroundings has already created attractive businesses providing jobs as well as an enhanced tax base. We are convinced that we offer attractive opportunities for compatible businesses to thrive here.

The City of Bainbridge Island has taken necessary zoning steps to insure that space is available for additional businesses and light manufacturing. In addition to land already in use at Day Road Industrial Park, there are other undeveloped areas that are zoned for light manufacturing. We believe that these actions insure that our local economy can accommodate the future needs.

We encourage attention and investigation from forward-looking, environmentally-sensitive businesses who recognize that quality of business and quality of life go hand-in-hand. With our semi-rural character, good roads, good schools, and an extraordinarily active community, Bainbridge Island is a great place in which to be located.

Sincerely,

Dwight Sutton,
Mayor
